Magellan has new range of eXplorist handheld GPS devices

Magellan has just introduced a new range of eXplorist handheld GPS devices which will target the outdoor recreation market, where it will come in the eXplorist 510, 610 and 710 models which enable adventurers to navigate through various outdoor destinations throughout the world. Of course, these are also more than capable of capturing geotagged photos along the way, allowing you to share you experiences online when you return home. All of the new eXplorist models will merge high-sensitivity GPS, an intuitive user interface, easy-to-read mapping and accurate navigation to make sure you can find your way around, and they will roll out to consumers in North America, Europe, and many other countries worldwide sometime before the year is over, specifically in Q4 2010.

You will be able to find a 3? color touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus capability, a microphone and speaker to record ge-referenced images, videos and voice notes in all three new eXplorist handheld GPS units. Not only that, they’re rugged enough to be certified as waterproof (according to the IPX-7 standard), although this doesn’t mean you can bring it on your next diving trip. Milo and Kate for the Xbox 360 Kinect

We covered the official announcement of the Kinect at E3, and I would imagine that game designers are going nuts to create new worlds of interactivity for Xbox 360 gamers.

Peter Molyneux, designer of famed video games franchises like Black and White and Fable has created a new game called Milo and Kate, which crosses into a very realistic realm of gaming.

In the game, the player gets to “mentor” a boy named Milo or a girl named Kate. The players can ask questions that will have the gaming characters respond back in a very artificial way (for now) and even “catch” virtual things that players throw at them. You can also pick up after them, and I believe there is an interesting conversation by Milo or Kate’s parents that the player overhears about a move of some kind.

Okay, this is getting into an area of gaming that I never thought we would have. By the way, the character of Milo and Kate isn’t just in the programming of the game. The mind of this virtual character is “cloud hosted”, so it “grows” with periodic updates from its host.

I suppose that Milo and Kate could prepare players for mentoring a real person, or maybe even parenting a child. Either way, I’m not even certain I can call it a game.

The ElliptiGO combines running and biking

This is the ElliptiGO, a bike that combines running and cycling, designed for low-impact but high-output workouts.

It was created by a former cyclist and Ironman triathlete who suffered hip and knee injuries. The ElliptiGO is designed to help runners avoid “beating up their bodies through repeated impact” as well as “position riders ‘out of the saddle’ and using their weight to generate torque with every stride”.

A recent video of the Early Show that you can view at my Source link shows weatherman Dave Price riding it. While he is riding, he states that “it feels so natural” despite the ElliptiGO’s spokesperson saying “that’s not proper technique”. I have another video of it that you can watch after the jump.

The ElliptiGO weighs in at 40 pounds, and is capable of speeds up to 15 to 25 miles per hour. It has eight shifting speeds, and braking is possible with hand levers. You will note how the mechanisms look like the arms of a swimmer doing freestyle.

According to my Source, the ElliptiGO costs about $2,200, and is available in blue, green, and black. I’m not certain if twenty-two hundred dollars is going to be too much. I would have to really know what kind of body I am going to get by using this product before I make a purchase that high.

When you’re out camping it just kills the mood entirely to refill your gadgets with new batteries. It’s way better if you can manage to go without changing batteries or plugging things in. This solar lantern will allow for you to keep your light source juiced and working all night long. Of course it looks like something you’d find at space camp instead of a camp in the middle of the woods, but at least you’ll be battery-free.
